Narcissi Classification

Division 1, Trumpet: Corona (“cup”) is as long as, or longer than the perianth segments (“petals”)

Division 2, Large Cupped: Corona (“cup”) is more than one third of, but less than equal to the length of the perianth segments (“petals”)

Division 3, Small Cupped: Corona (“cup”) is not more than one third of the length of the perianth segments (“petals”)

Division 4, Double: One or more flowers to a stem with doubling of the perianth (“petals”) or the corona (“cup”) or both

Bunch Flowered: Two or more flowers on the stem

Colour abbreviation is as follows:

W = WHITE Y = YELLOW

P = PINK O = ORANGE

R = RED EXAMPLE: 1W – Y is White Perianth, Yellow Cup

NOVICE CLASS

77 "Easter Arrangement in a Basket". An exhibit to include a basket. Space allowed 90cm. Wide.

Confined to those who have not won a 1st prize at any show.

INTERMEDIATE

78 "Sensational Spring" . An exhibit. Space allowed 90 cm wide.

Confined to those who have not won more than three 1st prizes at any show.

OPEN CLASSES

79 "Spring Garden". A Landscape exhibit. Space allowed 90 cm wide.

80 "Earth Awakens". A Contemporary exhibit. Space allowed 90cm wide.

81 "Easter Celebration". An exhibit. Space allowed 90cm wide.

82 "Spring Time". A petite exhibit. Space allowed, not exceeding

25 cm in width & depth, 37cm height.

Flower Arranging Rules

  1. Measurements are approximate.

The decision of the judge is final.

  1. An exhibit is composed of natural plant material, with or without accessories, contained within a space as specified in the show schedule.

  2. NAFAS Rules state that disqualification will take place for the following reasons:

  • Failure to comply with any specified requirements of a class as stated in this show schedule, e.g. the measurements or the components.

  • Inclusion of fresh material that does not have roots or the cut ends of stems in water or water -retaining material. (Exceptions: Air plants, cacti, fruits, fungi, grass turf, lichen, moss, succulents, and vegetables and long lasting plant material WHICH WILL REMAIN TURGID FOR THE DURATION OF THE SHOW. (Definition of ‘turgid’ – the state of firmness of plant tissue resulting from adequate moisture, causing the plant cells to be fully expanded)

  • Inclusion of artificial plant material, (unless specifically allowed by this show schedule)

For further details and definitions, please refer to the NAFAS ‘Competitions Manual’, Third Edition 2015, in accordance with which, all classes will be judged.

SECTION J – CHILDREN SECTION

(Must be child’s own work within last 12 months)

84 MINIATURE GARDEN in a biscuit tin. (Under 16)

85 SPRING FLOWER ARRANGEMENT in a basket. (Under 16)

86 DAFFODILS, 1 vase of 3. (Under 16)

Show Rules

Entries are to be staged between, Saturday 7 30pm - 10pm and Sunday 8am – 11 30am.

  1. A competitor may not enter more than one exhibit in any one class.

  2. The decision of the judge is final.

  3. All exhibits must have been grown in the garden of the exhibitor, excluding flower arranging classes.

  4. Exhibits are accepted at owners’ risk only.

  5. No exhibitor may be in the hall at the time of judging.

  6. A novice is someone who has never won a first prize.

  7. Entry Fee: 50c per class, except Flower Arranging Classes entry fee €2.

  8. All exhibits to be left until after presentation of Trophies on Sunday.

  9. 1st price €2 and 2nd prize €1 will be awarded in each class except Flower Arranging classes. See Flower Arranging section for prize money.
