Tá áthas orainn i gComhairle Contae Fhine Gall clár iontach d’imeachtaí ilghnéitheacha a léiriú le haghaidh Sheachtain na hOidhreachta 2018. Deis iontach is ea clár bliantúil Sheachtain na hOidhreachta a bheidh ar siúl idir 18-26 Lúnasa chun níos mó a fháil amach faoi oidhreacht do cheantair dhúchasaigh féin agus chun naisc a dhéanamh le daoine nua, chomh maith le scéalta a roinnt leo, agus aird á dhíriú ar an obair iontach atá á dhéanamh i bpobail fud fad na hÉireann chun an oidhreacht nádúrtha, tógtha agus chultúrtha seo againne a chaomhnú agus a chur chun cinn. Beidh imeacht teaghlaigh ar siúl Dé Domhnaigh, 26 Lúnasa, i dTeach Newbridge ina mbeidh réimse d’imeachtaí spraíúla agus cultúrtha ar siúl agus beidh turais saor in aisce i gCaisleán Ard Giolláin ar bhuile na huaire ó 11am - 4pm.

Beidh Seandálaí Pobail Fhine Gall, Christine Baker, i gcomhoibriú leis an Tionscadal CHERISH, ag tabhairt faoi shuirbhé seandálaíochta ag Brí Mhór, Baile Brigín, Dé Sathairn, an 18 Lúnasa, agus mar chuid de sin beidh turas timpeall na dtuamaí meigiliteacha agus chomh maith leis sin beidh sí ag dul i gcomhar le pobail i gceantair éagsúla i bhFine Gall mar chuid de Thionscadal Shuirbhé Geoifisiceach Fhine Gall – What Lies beneath.

Tá slua mór d’imeachtaí eile a bheidh ar siúl le haghaidh Sheachtain Oidhreachta timpeall an Chontae agus is deis iontach dúinn é seo dul i ngleic leis an Oidhreacht atá ina mórthimpeall orainn. Press Release August 13, 2018 Heritage Week in Fingal August 18-26

Fingal County Council is delighted to present an exciting and varied programme of events for Heritage Week 2018. The annual Heritage Week programme which runs from 18-26 August is a great opportunity to learn more about your local heritage and make connections with new people and stories while shining a spotlight the great work that is carried out in all communities in Ireland to preserve and promote our natural, built and cultural heritage. Fingal Libraries will present a series of talks including one on the Bremore Castle Restoration and Reconstruction Project by Fingal County Council’s Senior Parks Superintendent Kevin J. Halpenny in Balbriggan Library on Thursday 23 August @ 6.30 pm. Other talks will include Sam Green on Dunsink Observatory, author visit and nature talk by Páraic Fogarty and family history workshops with Fiona Fitzsimons of Eneclan.

There will be a bilingual event at lunch time in Swords castle hosted by Bernie Kelly, Irish Officer and Christine Baker Community Archaeologist on Tuesday 21st as well as the annual Fingal Heritage Network get together as various Historical Societies share stories on Wendesday 22nd. Newbridge House will host a family event on Sunday August 26th with a range of fun and cultural events and Ardgillan Castle will have free tours daily on the hour from 11am to 4pm.

On Saturday the 18th in collaboration with the CHERISH Project, Fingal’s Community Archaeologist Christine Baker will be undertaking an archaeological survey at Bremore, Balbriggan including a tour of the megalithic tombs and she will also be engaging with communities in a number of areas in Fingal through the Fingal Geophysical Survey Project – What Lies beneath.

There are a host of other activities taking place within the county for Heritage Week and this is a great opportunity to engage with the Heritage that surrounds us. Fingal has a rich natural, built and cultural heritage and this can be explored all year round whether by visiting our many heritage properties or getting involved in a group in your area or just getting out and enjoying what your community has to offer.

  • Fingal Heritage Network event -

At this event members of various Fingal historical societies will give short accounts of how chance encounters, either verbal or written, can lead to exciting new discoveries.   • Stair agus Gaeilge Caisleán Shoird

Bilingual event hosted by Bernie Kelly Irish Officer and Christine Baker Community Archaeologist in the Chapel Swords Castle. Come along at lunch time on Tuesday August 21st from 1 to 2 for a lunchtime chat as Gaeilge and learn about the history of the Castle and the recent Digging History Community Archaeology Project.   • What Lies Beneath - Fingal Geophysical Survey Project

This project is a means to engaging communities with an overlooked archaeological resource within their open spaces. During heritage week a geophysical surveyor and community archaeologist Christine Baker, along with the local communities will be targeting the open space of Rosepark estate Balrothery (Saturday 25 August), Chapel Farm , Lusk, (Friday 24) St Columba’s Swords (Thursday 23) as well as Corduff Park, Dublin 15 (Wednesday 22) to uncover what lies beneath. All welcome

  • Archaeological survey at Bremore, Co. Dublin led by the CHERISH Project, The Discovery Programme and Fingal County Council

In collaboration with the CHERISH Project, Fingal’s Community Archaeologist will be undertaking an archaeological survey at Bremore, including tour of the megalithic tombs, walkover survey of the fields and artefact and feature identification. Taking place 18 August 11am-2pm. This event will teach the basic skills in archaeological walk survey and artefact/feature identification. Participants may expect to come across a variety of artefacts as Bremore is a multiperiod site with megaliths dating back to 5000 BC and later historic settlement dated to the 16th century with an associated harbour.
