Councilor D Butler seeks update on restoration of Bremore Castle.

At the most recent Balbriggan/Swords area Fingal County Council committee meeting, Cllr Darragh Butler sought an update on progress on the restoration of Bremore Castle Balbriggan:

FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL

BALBRIGGAN/SWORDS AREA COMMITTEE MEETING

THURSDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER, 2017

BREMORE CASTLE.

Question: Councillor D. Butler

“To ask the Chief Executive for an update with regard to the restoration

works at Bremore Castle and when this fantastic building will be open to

the public?”

Reply:

Works on restoring the castle are at an advanced stage and it is intended

that an increasing number of public events will be facilitated in the castle

over the coming months and years having regard to the available

resources and other relevant constraints. A plan for the Regional Park

including Bremore Castle and incorporating a major Active Recreational

Hub is in preparation.

Fingal County Council has also engaged SLR Consulting to undertake a

feasibility study on the potential of Bremore Castle. The study will

encompass:

 Development of a shortlist of high-impact options for Bremore

Castle as a tourism product which can have an economic

regenerative impact for Balbriggan.

 Identification and assessment of constraints and environmental

considerations of each option.

 Advise on the extent of fit-out to be delivered by FCC to enable

these options and associated costs for FCC.

 Assessment of potential operating models and estimates of their

ongoing revenue and cost implications.
