Following a hugely successful 2017 CoderDojo Balbriggan has grown and has over 90 kids registered to attend biweekly sessions. In June they sent 5 Nijas to represent Balbriggan at Coolest Projects which you can read about Here
With 90 kids registered, thats a lot of kids to accommodate, currently a typical Dojo has 30 Ninjas and most time there is a waiting list of kids wanting to attend.
In case you dont know CoderDojo is an international organisation originally set up by a Corkman. This is taken from their About Section:
The CoderDojo movement believes that an understanding of programming languages is increasingly important in the modern world, that it’s both better and easier to learn these skills early, and that nobody should be denied the opportunity to do so. To that end, we’ve built a global network of free, volunteer-led, community-based programming clubs for young people. Anyone aged seven to seventeen can visit a Dojo where they can learn to code, build a website, create an app or a game, and explore technology in an informal, creative, and social environment.
CoderDojo Balbriggan AGM on Feb 22nd at 7pm
A big issue with the growth of CoderDojo Balbriggan has been recruiting mentors, volunteers and help with organisation. To keep the CoderDojo running and to facilitate the huge number children seeking to be involved they need to increase their adult volunteers and are calling for help from the community of Balbriggan and hope volunteers will step forward, attend this AGM and offer their help.
You don’t have to be a computer wizard to get involved (but we do also need some mentors with coding skills) To Volunteer can be anything from simple supervision on the days of CoderDojo to Mentoring or helping planning and organising. Offering as little as one hour per month would be enough. Many people giving a little time will help loads.
If you can’t attend but can offer to help please email firstname.lastname@example.org
For kids Interested in coming along. Register at their website www.coderdojobalbriggan.com to be notified when tickets are available for a session.
