Balbriggan and District Horticultural Society

Annual Rose & Sweet Pea Show took place in Ardgillan Castle, Balbriggan in recently the displays of roses and sweetpea were magnificent and the perfume from them was amazing. Other exhibits included vegetables, pot plants and cut flowers.

A very informative tour of the rose garden was give my head gardener Dominica Mc Kevitt.

The prizewinners included

Alex McKenna Trophy for Highest Points Section A novice section was won by Josephine Campbell

William Murray Perpetual Cup Best Exhibit in Section B exbitor that grows less than 50 rose plant was won by Declan Fox

Garden News Shield for the Highest Points Section B was won by Madeline Harford

Dick Nevin Perpetual Shield Best Exhibit Section C the open rose section. The Hugh Cumisky Cup for the Highest Points Section C, The Garden News Challenge Shield forBest Floribunda Exibit in Show, Royal National Rose Society Bronze Medal for Best Rose Bloom in Show was won by Pat Curtis.

Fr. O’Sullivan Cup for the Best Exibit Section D cut flowers and pot plant section was won by Christopher White.

The McAleer Cup for the Highest Points Section F novice sweet pea section was won by John Warren.

The Josie Weldon Perpetual Cup for the Highest Points in Section E was won by Pat Thornton, Bill Chase Memorial Trophy for Best Vase Section E was won by Pat Thornton

The most coveted trophies of the show The Ardgillan Trophy for Best Exibit in Show and the All Ireland Rose Trophy were won by Pat Curtis.

The Ardgillan Rose Garden was looking fantastic on the day and a very informative garden tour was conducted by head gardener Dominica Mc Kevitt at 3pm.

The Balbriggan and district Annual flower show will take place on Sunday the 2nd of September in the community college Balbriggan everyone is welcome to entre before 11 30 or come to view the exhibits displayed in the afternoon.
