New Youth Service for Balbriggan
Where: in our new premises, 7 Linen Court, Harbour Mill, Mill St, Balbriggan (entrance via Georges Hill to the rear of the post office beside the Chilli Flake Indian restaurant)
A new and exciting youth service is currently being established for the young people in the Balbriggan area. The Balbriggan Youth Service is a Foróige managed Project in partnership with Balbriggan Youth Advisory Committee supported by Co. Dublin VEC and NDRDTF. The youth service provides a range of services for the community, including:
- Services to Voluntary Youth Groups: Training, Programme Development, Advice and Information, help to start up new groups/clubs
- Training and Education Programmes for specifically targeted young people including: Early School Leavers, Young Mothers, Young People at risk of being in trouble with the law.
- Services to Schools: Student Council training, Drug/Alcohol Awareness Programmes, Mentoring Training, Programmes for students transferring from primary to post primary school
- School Holiday Programmes: Area-based week-long programmes of activities, summer courses, workshops on specific topics, Outdoor Pursuits.
The youth service is open to every young person in Balbriggan and provides a range of services for adolescents aged between 10 and 21 years. Project workers for the Balbriggan Youth Service Derval Cumiskey, Gary Harding and Zita Flatley, will commence the programmes in the coming weeks. These programmes will consist of activities designed to meet the interests, learning and development needs of the young people in Balbriggan. Planned activities include games, music, healthy eating, the Teenage Health Initiative, DVD evenings, soccer groups, Arts and crafts, café evenings in our centre on various evenings including Friday evenings. Suggestions are also very welcome from the young people, as it is vital that the service fulfills the needs of the young people in the Balbriggan area as much as possible.
Volunteers are an important part of the success of both Foróige and the youth service so we welcome the involvement of volunteers who are interested in becoming involved in the project.
