I have so far traced the family
tree back to the baptisms of the children of John Smyth
in 1805, 1808 and 1809 recorded in the baptismal records
of Balrothery and Balscadden at the Representative Church
Body, Dublin. If John's father was Joseph one could suppose
that the latter could have been born in about 1750 if he
was, say, 30ish when John was born. Is there any way of
finding out any details of Joseph, his wife and family locally.
Joseph might well have been buried in one of the local graveyards
or at Balbriggan after the new church was built in 1813.
In a Local History article in the Balbriggan Enterprise
there is an item saying that, in 1780, Baron Hamilton established
Smyth and Company in the town. Where was this reference
located and is there more family detail in the source?
I know nothing about Irish Baronies: is there a publication
you could name that I may read up the subject?
Finally, is it possible to buy copies of Branagan's 3 photos
taken of the Smyth factory and workers?
I hope this enquiry is not stretching the kind offer I received.
I should be very happy to reciprocate by giving any little
information aquired about the Smyth family in exchange.
All information is for family use especially the branch
in Australia.
