1983 Aerial Photo of Balbriggan & Guest Book updated.
We spotted a very large framed photo of Balbriggan in the offices of O'Connor Crean. Unfortunately, the photograph is fading and a fungus has started to eat away at the print. Tony arranged with Dave O'Connor, to remove the photograph from the frame and photograph it. We bring the full picture along with a zoomed in section showing the hotel area. We may already have this photograph on the site, we are not sure. We have updated the Guest Book but a technical problem is preventing us from bringing you the updated list of nick names which now stands at 417 names. Click to enlarge. 01.03.2007

TV3 visits Balbriggan to capture the world’s first Seal Race!
Ireland AM’s Aidan Cooney and Paddy Power joined forces on Wednesday as two seals- ‘Boris’ from Cork and ‘Viscount’ from Dublin were released into the sea at the site of the planned Marine Conservation and Education Centre. Money changed hands as the seals came down the slipway near the Martello tower but thankfully it was all going to the Seal Sanctuary charity. Brendan Price invited the local schoolchildren from St Mologa’s to view this unique occasion and Brian Howley was on hand for Balbriggan.net to capture what was a very unique afternoon- seagulls, cormorants, seals , speed boat, Bremore Castle, trains, judo practice on clifftop and a full tv crew ! Where in the World will Balbriggan Darts Ace be in 2007?
Ok so we all know that Mick ‘The Magnet’ McGowan from Balbriggan set a blistering pace in Professional Darts world over the last few years. And anyone with a keen eye on Skysports saw Mick move from ranking of 75th in the World to 35th when the PDC was played over Christmas and New Year in Surrey, England.
Up against the famous defending champion Phil Taylor in the second round our Mick racked up no less than 10 maximums …that’s 180 !! more. 28.02.07

The Bell Hill
Its well over 130 years since the Bell Hill succumbed to the mountainous seas that forced her on the rocky shore off the Balbriggan coast. When I was growing up in the 50s, there were still locals alive who, as children, must have stood watching the tragedy unfold and their stories kept children like me enthralled. For many years I have wanted to do something to mark the event and for the past few months have been working on this epic poem. Roger Turner. Click to the thumbnail to read Rogers Poem.28.02.07

Wow, it is hard to believe that it was 20 years ago... by Colin Whelan.
The Harbour Inn was situated on the corner opposite Deli Burger where the new Balbriggan Pharmacy is.We used to have a great laugh in that place. I was never out of it. If I was not working in it, I was drinking in it, If I was not drinking in it, I was playing music in it!
Everyone will remember Fran Carroll, Denis Gay, and Tommy Byrne running the place and the great job they did.Live Music, remember the bands? The Posers, The Carter Brothers, Carl Marry, Middle East. Paul Toal, PJ Cullen, Ray Carter. Great. Well Fran always made some great posters and artwork for different theme nights and events they would put on, one such night was Halloween 1987! What a laugh. Do not look at these pictures if you are easily upset. If you were there that night, click in and stroll down memory lane!

PLANS UNDERWAY TO CONSTRUCT LOOK ALIKE ORIGINAL LANTERN FOR BALBRIGGAN HARBOUR LIGHTHOUSE
Local T.D. and Green Party Leader, Trevor Sargent, is continuing to campaign for the restoration of the Balbriggan Harbour lighthouse.“I had hoped that a discarded lantern could be found elsewhere in the country. After checking out this possibility, however, a helpful architect has found that the redundant lantern house would be too big for the Balbriggan lighthouse and therefore there is no point in pursuing its acquisition. Thanks to the dedication of officials ain Fingal County Council and the generosity of a local architect, plans are now being drawn up to reconstruct a lantern house in the original style and the correct size to fit Balbriggan Harbour lighthouse.”ends.Information: Trevor Sargent, T.D.Office: 890 0360 PRESS STATEMENT
