Another Wreck in the Harbour
Can you believe it, just as the Council clean up the Harbour, another wreck has appeared. It happened this afternoon, our man was photographing down close to the Lighthouse when before he knew it, the tide came in. He will have to wait till midnight to get it back, at least by that time he won't need to dip his headlights. Silly man. Click to enlarge the photo. 12.03.10

The Lighthouse has been painted
We are delighted to report that the Lighthouse has been painted over the past few days. Michael Ryan of RPM Decorators in Ballyboughal are doing a great job on Ireland's second oldest working Lighthouse. Today it looked particularly good when the railing at the top was painted a "Fire Engine Red". There are still rumors that they hope to replace the Dome but that finance is still the problem. We know we have lots of wealthy people who view this site regularly so if you think you could contribute, contact us and we'll pass your details on. Well done to FCC and Balbriggan Town Council for all the recent work. Click on the thumbnail to see the photos. 03.03.10

New History section on B.net
If there was one part of this site we weren't happy about, it was the history page. It wasn't even a history page as such, it was something we did way back in 2003 but the site has moved on since then. We have tried several different ways of putting this new section on the web and we have come to the conclusion that the best way is by PDF, so you will have to download it. Several of you out there spotted the problems we were having over the past week, it looked great if you had a large monitor but if you were using a laptop or had a small monitor, you couldn't see the entire page. So here it all is, compiled and researched by Phil & Tony, all 26 pages with reference links. We hope you enjoy it and most importantly, learn about one of the best towns in Ireland. Rasher, Frano, Ricko, Skutty, Mac and Fago
These lads sound like a band from the 60's, Dave, Dee, Dosey etc. This is a great photograph given to us last night. It's the aforementioned lads from Balbriggan on holidays in Blackpool sometime in the '70's and they posed for this photograph in the "Rovers Return". Thanks to Brendan for this gem. Michael McGovern in the news
A local man who is sadly no longer with us, Michael McGovern was mentioned on the Joe Duffy radio show during the week in connection with Hangar 6 and Ryanair. Joe was in conversation with the designer of the hangar and when asked who came up with the idea of such a large building, he replied that it was Michael McGovern. Michael, by all accounts had a great brain and was considered "fair" in all his dealings while he was with Aer Lingus. He was also a dab hand in electronics and we believe he built one of the first TV's in Balbriggan. One of the team took this photo of him in November 2006 and he sadly passed away about a year later. Deirdre, Angela, Niamh and Barry are very proud of their Dad and so they should be. Click to enlarge photo. 20.02.10

Final wreck removed yesterday
Honestly, did we really think we would see the day all the wrecks would be removed. Berthing Master, Neal Roche and his team have removed all the wrecks, something everyone had wished for. Also we believe the Lighthouse is to be painted in the next two weeks. Again, we sincerely thank An Cathaoirleach, Monica Harford, Balbriggan Town Council, Brian Murray and Neal Roche and Fingal County Council Environment Dept. A job well done. 16.02.10
President Mary McAleese visits Balbriggan
Foroige, Balbriggan Youth Service was officially launched today by President Mary McAleese. After a quick tour of the centre, Jim McVeigh of Co. Dublin VEC spoke as did Kieran Dowling from the centre. It was then the turn of The President who spoke glowingly of the centre and of the youth and emphasised the importance of such places. Pat McLoughlin, Chairperson also said a few words and the whole thing was held together by MC, Princess Siwlea. Other invited guests included An Cathaoirleach, Monica Harford, Cllrs. Grainne Maguire, Frank Snow, Dermot Murray and May McKeon along with Michael Kennedy TD & Trevor Sargent TD. There was a big crowd there and our man was there to take a few "snaps" which you can now see by clicking on the thumbnail. 15.02.10
Almost 5000 B.net pages viewed in one day!
The latest web statistics for Balbriggan.net show that on Friday, 720 people viewed 4831 pages. These sort of figures don't happen overnight but take years to build up. In our first year we were getting about 40 hits a day and we were delighted, never thinking we'd achieve these heights. We are always looking on ways to improve the site so if you have a suggestion, please let us know. Click on the thumbnail to see the figures for yourself. 14.02.10
Four young girls terrorizing Hampton Green
We have received several complaints about these young girls terrorizing residents of a Balbriggan housing estate. They are known to sit on neighbours walls laughing, telling jokes, and they are very good humored and well mannered girls. Yesterday, we found one of them hiding in our Green Bin. We won't take it any longer. We have their names and we even know where they live, so we would ask their parents to try to control their offspring.. We are looking for your help, if you know anyone in this photo, please email us. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge this photo. 13.02.10
Ardgillan Community College Unveils New Crest
The new Ardgillan Community College opened recently. Lacking an official crest, they held a student competition with the best suggestion being adopted. Principal Michael O'Leary addressed the audience about the name, Ard Giolláin. Theresa Gannon explained that the College will eventually cater for over 1000 pupils and local historian Jim Walsh then treated us to a fine speech on Ardgillan Castle's history. News Flash. Another wreck bites the dust
Yes, that's right, another wreck is gone thanks to the great work by Fingal County Council, Environment Dept. Neal and the gang started work early this morning and they finished late afternoon. All that's left there now is some black muck, probably diesel and oil but this should wash away when the tide comes in later tonight. That's a great weeks work lads, many many thanks. All the work going on at the harbour generates great interest among the locals and who was there only Sean Daly, Pat Dowling and Phil Curtis. 12.02.10
Last bits of the "Girl Margaret" & "St. John" removed
Still no Marina built or Dome replaced but the Council were busy again today removing the last vestiges of the two wrecks down near the lighthouse. In today's collection you can see how well the area looks now.
See also Róisín Mollaghan and our Holly who had to be scalped (she doesn't look like a Pom - more like that "Should've gone to Specsavers" sheepdog).

"Meals on Wheels" receive donation from Benton & Curtis.
When Jack & Joe decided to make last Christmas's Balbriggan DVD, they wanted their share of the proceeds to go to "Balbriggan Meals on Wheels".
Today our man presented a cheque for € 400 - which we know they can put to good use - to Helen Davis, staff and volunteers. There was great fun taking the photograph and if you look closely, you can see people hiding at the back. Going.....going.....
.....St. John - St. John - nearly gone! Can you believe it, our man was out walking the dogs again today when lo & behold he spotted "That Digger"
again. This time our Council were removing the 'St.John', the 1956 Killibegs-built eyesore we have all come to loathe. Thanks Alex for the 'heads-up'. Every morning this week we've spotted something different taking place. At this rate, by Friday the Lighthouse will be painted, the Dome replaced and a Marina built. Let's see what happens! Wreck Removed
At long last this unsightly eyesore has been removed from the Harbour. It comes as no surprise as last month, Cathaoirleach Monica Harford issued a press release saying that this would happen very shortly. Balbriggan Pom Comes 5th in National Contest Millie
One of Balbriggan's many Poms, has come 5th out of over 700 entries in The Irish Independent's, "Best For My Dog" photo competion.
Millie was only 6 weeks old when our Tony took this photo in his Balbriggan Photo Studio. Tony tells us that although she looks lovely here, she is a bold dog who eats the insoles of every shoe, slipper, bluetooth earpieces, iPhone earphones and one who has wrecked dozens of socks and 3 pairs of trousers. Despite all that, she is the most loveable, mischievous, intelligent dog he has ever come across. Balscadden Team Photo 1988 With Names

Moonlit Fishing Boats From Hampton Cove
One of the team got a call late on Sunday night to say there was a lovely photograph just waiting for a photographer to capture. Our Nancy convinced our man to get out of bed and make his way up to Hampton Cove which he duly did. Are we glad he did it, you bet your life as the photos "turned out nicely" (George Formby). Happy Birthday Gertie Shields
Gertie Shields had a party to end all parties when she and about 100 family and friends got together in The Bracken Court Hotel last week, Gertie is well known about the town and indeed the country for her involvement with MADD and as a Town Councilor from which she retired last year. The party nearly didn't go ahead as Gertie fell and badly bruised her face a few days previously. Following a few family photographs taken by local photographer, a slide show was projected on the big screen of old photographs featuring Gertie and this gave great topics for discussion. It was then time for a lovely meal and a night that went on very late. Michael & Mary Halligan would like to thank everyone who came along and would like to sincerely thank the Bracken Court Hotel for all their help. Click on the thumbnail to see "Who was there". 01.02.10

Digital Photography Course in The Community College
We wish our man, Mr T, the best of luck for the next 8 weeks as he tries to explain the physics of Light and Digital Photography. He hopes to explain the relationship between shutter speeds and apertures, Depth of Field, ISO settings, The rule of thirds, and the limitations of Flash and basically how to get the most from your Digital camera. Also, how to get your photographs onto your PC and the importance of Backing up your precious images. Later in the course he will discuss HDR photography, Photoshop, Elements, Picasa and how to email a photograph the correct way. The difference between Jpeg (Jay Peg). TIFF, PSD, and RAW files. It's not rocket science, it's actually quite easy once you understand the basics. 31.01.10

Balbriggan Church Cross
Presently we are in the process of updating our History Page. During our research, we learnt about the time a Cross fell through the roof. In 1857 during a thunderstorm, the Cross on the east gable was struck by lightning and fell through the roof onto the congregation. The Cross presently beside the Church is the one that once stood above the main door and was removed in about 1960.
Two Great Team Photographs
The trouble we go through to keep you entertained and to keep B.net the most visited community web site in Ireland. We can't verify this, but judging from the emails we receive every day, B.net is definitely one of the top sites in the country. Thanks to all our contributors. Today, we have to thank PJ Cullen for these gems. They look like 1980's photos, we don't think we brought them to you before although they did feature on PJ's DVD last year. If you're sending us names, please make it clear which photo you are referring to. Don't forget, you can email Pj@balbriggan dot net. Click on the thumbnail and enjoy. 31.01.10

So today the charming Darren Kennedy, Catriona McBride and Jack the camera man spent two hours chatting and filming a clip for the show that's airing on Wednesday night at 8pm. Attached is a photo of us with presenter Darren Kennedy and Jack the camera man. Our T-shirts for the day where printed by two local lads Mark McInerney and Jimmy Brennan from "Talking Threads" and we want to say a big thank you to them for turning them around in such a hurry. Last weekend was a busy one for parties. One of the biggest was a 75th party for "The Busty Bergin" at The Ring Commons. Our Tony was hired for the hour and today we bring you almost 50 photographs. Busty, from Bath Road, used to work in Hampton Mills and now enjoys playing Pitch & Putt. Busty became visibly moved when everyone was congratulating him. We here at B.net want to wish Busty all the very best health in the future. "Elvis" alias Joe Corcoran was there to entertain the crowd, and he was his usual brilliant. "Elvis" can be hired for any occasion, email us here and we'll put you in contact. Click on the thumbnail to see the photographs. 28.01.10

Sarah Morgan's 30th Party
Family friends and work colleagues all came along for a fancy dressed Las Vegas themed night. There were black jack tables, roulette tables and other Vegas games on the night. People were given fake money on there way in and the person with the most amount of money at the end of the night won a lovely prize. Sarah was accompanied by her partner Eddie Carvin her mother Bernie and her granny Mrs Morgan and many friends. The crowd was entertained by music from Jimmy Brennan, Eric Campbell, Sharon Gaynor and Mark McInerney who did a fantastic job on the night. The Bracken Court hotel never had so many weddings in one night with everybody stepping into the white chapel for a cheap quick wedding. Thanks to Gary Tolan for the photographs and a few from our Tony. Click on the thumbnail. 28.01.10

1500 Hits on Monday
As a mark of respect to Declan Richardson, we purposefully didn't put anything on this page for the past 2 days. We have loads of "Stuff" to bring you but the first item we must bring you is the number of hits the web site is receiving. For the 24 hours of Monday, the news page received nearly 1500 hits and the number of pages viewed was 4500. We sincerely have to thank Joe Curtis, PJ Cullen and all the other people who have sent us photographs for the site. Without these contributors, there would be no B.net. The web site is not a money making venture, we need adverts to pay for the hosting and the huge web space which we now need, in excess of 3 Gb. We have had to curtail our slide shows as we have so many people downloading them, that it can cost us over £100.00 Sterling per month. Click on the thumbnail to see the latest number of visitors to the site.

Richie Laid To Rest
A very good friend of ours was laid to rest with full military honou
rs recently. Declan "Richie" Richardson passed away peacefully on the 8th and was buried on the 11th of Jan. in St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. The defense forces pulled out all the stops for their comrade and because it was a full military funeral, his wife, Nancy, asked us to photograph it for her. Richie would have been so proud of his comrades. Stephen Orange, a close personal friend was honoured to be a pallbearer. Biting cold and driving rain made it difficult for everyone especially the army band. We sincerely thank the defense forces for their co-operation and for their professionalism on such a sad day. Again, our sincere condolences to Nancy and Kayleigh who are only coping because of their fantastic family and friends. Richie, Rest in Peace. 23.01.10 Click on the thumbnail.

Team Photo by PJ Cullen 1986
Great photograph for you today, we are not sure if we have it on the site already but just in case, here it is. The year is 1986 and it looks like its at The Glebe North. Get those names in as soon as possible as we haven't a clue who they are, we just hope they are locals and not the away team. Our Lad in Lanzarote, get cracking on those names. 22.01.10

Mystery Lady Identified
When we were photographing the Tractor Run through Balbriggan a few weeks back, a lady waved at us and we took her photo. We placed it on the site and she rang us tonight to say hello. Her name is Jacinta Gorman of "Classic Car Seat Covers" in the town. Thanks Jacinta, another mystery solved. 21.01.10
It's P.J. Cullen Time Again
Here is another "Classic PJ Photo" and it's a Wavin Sports & Social Club group photo. It's probably taken in the 1980's but we have a small problem that only half of the photo is in focus but we have our technical dept. working on it and they hope to have the problem solved by tomorrow morning. Feel free to submit some names. Click to enlarge the photo. 20.01.10

Balbriggan Harbour Improvements welcomed by Balbriggan Town Council

Email from Monica Harford, Cathaoirleach, Balbriggan Town Council.

The members of Balbriggan Town Council were informed recently that the Environmental Services Department of Fingal County Council have received quotations for the removal of one of the boat wrecks at Balbriggan Harbour and the necessary works will be carried out in the very near future. The Town Council has made repeated representations on the condition of the harbour to Fingal County Council and I would like to thank Director of Service, Mr P.J. Howell and his staff for their assistance. I welcome on behalf of the people of Balbriggan and the elected members of the Town Council the news that the removal of wrecks along with the painting of the lighthouse at Balbriggan Harbour is about to commence in the very near future. I understand that the Council will be carrying out further improvements including vehicular controls during the year subject to funding being available. The Harbour is a very important part of Balbriggan and I am confident the people of Balbriggan will appreciate the Council’s commitment to improving the harbour for harbour users, locals and visitors alike.
Regards
Monica. 18.01.10

Paddy McEvoy R.I.P
We have only just realised who Paddy McEvoy is, the father of The Bounce. Michelle McEvoy left a lovely message on the Guest Book, "Just wanted to write this message as my Grandfather Patrick (Paddy) McEvoy was buried today. He died on Tuesday the 12th of January. We will miss you so much Grandad and you will always be remembered. It wont be the same in Derham Park without you there. Love you always. Michelle" We here at B.net extend our sympathy to The Bounce and all the McEvoy family.

The Red Cannon R.I.P
We believe that The Red Cannon passed away this week. We didn't know him but thanks to Mylene Ford, we have this photograph of him along with The Bully Halligan and Owen Ford, who also sadly passed away on the 25th April 2009. Our condolences to The Reds family and friends. Mylene said that The Red was well known and well respected. Thanks Mylene. 17.01.10
Barney Presents € 8765.00 to Hospice
This years Tractor Run raised almost € 9000.00 in aid of St. Francis Hospice in Raheny. And today, 17th Jan, at The Man O'War pub, Barney presented Dee Kinnane of the hospice with the cheque watched on by supporters and volunteers. Click on the thumbnail to see a few photos. 17.01.10

BBC 1 Test Card
Oh my god, does anyone else remember staring at this Test card, with the little girl and the dog, every morning during the summer holidays. If our memory serves us correctly, Bag puss, Mr. Ben and The Clangers would start at 10am and we would be waiting for them to start from about 9.50. We came across the test card by accident this morning and great memories came flooding back. We are talking about 1971 to 73, does anyone else have similar memories or are we just getting old. Click on the thumbnail to see the full test card. We know it has nothing to do with Balbriggan but we love photographs and this is a magic photograph. 17.01.10

Liam Prout (Fancourt Heights) marries Lisa Moore.
Here is the email we received, "Hey Tony and gang just wondering could you post a few photos of the Little brothers Liam's wedding. Liam Prout (Fancout Heights) married Lisa Moore (Matt Lane, Naul Rd) on news years eve in St Peter and Paul's church in Balbriggan and then on to the fabulous Gormanstown collage for some great photo's of the happy couple. Then they traveled the long road to the Numore Hotel in Carrickmacross for an unforgettable night." Congratulations to the lovely couple especially the beautiful bride, Lisa from all of us here at B.net. If you got married recently, send us a few of your photos. Also, don't forget, we know two wedding photographers in Balbriggan who are very good. Anyway, click on the thumbnail to see the lovely couple. 17.01.10
Another P.J. Cullen Classic Photo
PJ was the photographer in the town in the 1970's and '80's and after a chance meeting with him on Bridge street two years ago, he very kindly agreed to share his huge selection of photographs with B.net. Today's photograph is fantastic photo of a group of lads, maybe a Band???? As usual, we need your help in identifying the "True Locals". Click to enlarge. 17.01.10
HDR Photography of Balbriggan
HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and it combines several photographs into one so it captures the shadows in one photo and the highlights in another and combines it into one. Usually 3 to 4 photographs are taken with a difference of 1 or 2 stops per photo. Robert Smith has sent us in a few such HDR photographs of Balbriggan and one in particular takes our fancy. He has captured the viaduct and the Church spire at a fabulous angle, one we've never spotted before. Anyone interested in trying this type of photography should have a look at Photomatrix. Thanks Robert for the photographs. Click on the thumbnail to see photos. 16.01.10
Naul Hurling Club 1911
Here is a tremendous photograph almost 100 years old and with all the names. Don't forget, this photo is from very different era when we were part of the UK, severe poverty and very little to do except sport and story telling. The photo is part of The Benton/Curtis Collection and Joe has very kindly made it available to us. We hope you spot some relations or even friends relations in this cracking photo. Click to enlarge. 01.01.10
Glebe North 1949 Photo

P.J.Cullen Photograph
A very poor response to our other PJ Cullen photo from yesterday, in fact not one person has let us know who they could be. Come on, you can do better than that. Here is another photo and it looks like it could be inside Wavin. Do you know who they are? Email us to the usual address. Click to enlarge 15.01.10. Update, and thanks for the emails,
The first one in wavin is John Keeling (glasses) and second is Freddie Healy.

Declan (Richie) Richardson RIP
One of our best friends, Richie, age 46, sadly passed away yesterday (Friday) afternoon in Beaumont Hospital after a short illness. Richie leaves behind a beautiful wife, Nancy and lovely young daughter, Kayleigh. Also his Mother, Noleen, and 5 sisters, Helen, Maura, Elaine, Maeve and Brenda.
Originally from Skerries, Richie lived in The Chantries for several years and was based at Gormanston Camp as a tailor. A close friend to us here at B.net and a regular visitor to the site, especially the Guest book. We will miss this beautiful person terribly but are consoled by the fact he had a great life, having done almost everything he wanted to do. After Nancy & Kayleigh, his next love was the Harley Davidson of which he was so proud. He kept it spotless and next planned to travel Route 66 across the USA. Sadly that wasn't to be. Richie, we love and miss you dearly; you brought great love and joy and laughter to our lives, thank you.
Funeral after 10am Mass on Monday 11th Jan. 2010 and then to St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery Balbriggan.

Balbriggan Harbour by Joe Flanaghan
We have just received this email, we bring it to you in its entirety.
"Just reading some of the latest comments on site about Balbriggan Harbour!!  It's very evident that the people involved do not keep up to date with Local news (as they claim to). In the Local paper  the "Fingal Independent "have carried great articles about a Local Support group called "Balbriggan Harbour Improvement Group"who  have been very active for the past couple of months and after a very successful meeting with officals from Fingal Co.Council recently, the local Harbour will be improved with the painting of the LIGHTHOUSE in the very near future  as reported in the newspaper , then the Council are looking into the wrecks, but the Lighthouse painted will be a great improvement for the area ,to start with. It's all thanks to the Group headed by Martin Fanning , I believe a "TRUE LOCAL " and all the group who have the town;s interest at heart. Acually one of the lads told me you do some work for the paper , you must be suffering from a severe case of amnesia because the latest article in Dec 09 was very positive about the success of the group ???? I wonder will you Paste this message up on the site  as all the lads have a bet to see if you are true to your word . Time will tell . "
We reiterate: Balbriggan.net prides itself on it's impartiality. Need we say more?
Barney Greene Tractor Run
The Tractor Run took place last Sunday with a huge convey of over 80 tractors which left the Man O'War at 11.30, went out by Ballyboughal, Naul and into Balbriggan at 1pm. Dog Reunited With Owners
We've just heard that this dog has been reunited with it's owners. More details when we get it. We believe the owners live on Flemington lane and saw their dog on B.net. Can we remind everyone to put a collar on their dog with a phone number.
Balbriggan Harbour
As you know, we here at B.net strive to remain totally impartial. We feel that controversy is better suited to a local paper or even a dedicated web site. Having said that, we do have a soft spot for our beautiful Harbour and it hurts us so much to see it neglected while it would not be tolerated in Skerries. We have just been told that the Balbriggan Harbourmaster lives in Skerries, can this be true? Why not a local person? Today we bring you two more correspondences about same. Click on thumbnail to read. 05.01.10

Jason met Paula at University while in America on his soccer scholarship.
They married in Elkhart, Indiana on September 5th. 27th December saw friends and family gather at Whyte's Pub, Stamullen for a second Reception where the new Mrs Richardson again wore her beautiful gown to universal admiration. Byrne's & The Baker Visit Balbriggan
One of the team, down by the Lighthouse, got talking to three visitors enquiring about Derhams Pub. Telling them that it's now the medical centre, the conversation then turned to how beautiful the harbour was - except for the wrecks, the scrap metal and those abandoned engines. They understood that it's a working Harbour but were really disappointed with the delapidated state, saying how it spoilt the amenity for them. Several other folks have mentioned this to us from time to time, so it's not just a 'one-off' reflection on the state of our town. They wondered if the Harbour Master would know what the situation about cleaning up this disgrace would be - saying that "it wouldn't happen further down the coast". Do please email us if you know who the Harbourmaster is then we can all press to get the eyesores removed. Click on the thumbnail to see the visitors. 03.01.10

Seán Daly, Birdie Creighton and other Birds
We bumped into a few people on our walk this morning including Flan Kiernan who told us that every morning he checks B.net, then RTE, then BBC, nice to know we are up there with the best of sites. We then met Seán Daly and had a great chat and then the Bridie Creighton came along and we all went home......only joking, we had a great laugh. The Harbour is like a magnet to everyone, great atmosphere there, where would we be without it. Click on the thumbnail to see several photographs taken today. 02.01.10
CHARITY TRACTOR RUN TO ROLL ONCE AGAIN.
One of the most popular events in the fundraising calendar is on the horizon once again. The Barney Greene Tractor Run in aid of St Francis Hospice in Raheny has been penciled in for Sunday 3rd January. The convey will leave from outside the Man O' War pub at 11.15am and then head up to Blake's Cross and then over to Ballyboughal. From there it will proceed to Naul and then onto St Peter and St Paul's Church in Balbriggan before returning to the Man O' War. Tickets are now on sale for a raffle and they cost 2 euro each or 10 euro for a book of 6. There will be 8 different prizes up for grabs. There will also be an auction on the day. Music will be provided by 'Morning Dew' on the day. Anybody wishing to participate should contact Barney at 086 0813 725 or Michael Hoey at 086 2465 079. Please bring your insurance certificate with you. THANKING YOU BARNEY GREENE
New Look Train Station
We noticed on our walkabout this evening that the train station has had a face lift. It looks as though they widened the entrance steps, a more spacious interior and a wider entrance onto the platform. They have also modified the shelter area which now includes perspex windows to shield the passengers on the cold wintry mornings. We think it looks really well, all we need now is more trains so you don't have to stand all the way to Dublin. Click to see today's photos. 01.01.10
Violent Waves Hit Balbriggan Harbour
The Harbour is where it all seems to be happening at the moment. Today we got some nice seasonal shots but on the 29th & 30th, violent waves were crashing against the Lighthouse and the harbour wall. Thomas Levins has sent us some great photos of waves breaking over the wall, they must be almost 50ft high! It makes you wonder how the Lighthouse is still there. It's a pity they didn't take away that wreck by the Lighthouse and the huge metal boat beside O'Sheas. Thanks Thomas for the photos, click on the thumbnail to see. 01.01.10
Harbour on New Years Day
The Harbour is looking particularly well during this cold snap and on our walk today we got some photos of those who work from there. Ken Griffin was on the "Moonshine" with others trying to get the engine going after the huge waves that came over the wall recently. We also got talking to Meg and Derek and what was supposed to be a quick walk with the dogs lasted over 2 hours. Click to see who you recognise. 01.01.10

Lunar Eclipse Seen From Balbriggan
A Lunar Eclipse took place this evening around 7.20 and due to the recent rain etc we weren't expecting to see anything but lo and behold, the sky was clear with just a few fast moving clouds so we decide to take a few shots. They were all basically the same so we are just bringing you the one. The earths shadow is been cast on the bottom right hand corner of the moon so it looks like part of the moon is missing. Is this the same Boat?
Last week we took a photo of a boat adjacent to O'Shea's Bar. You can see it in the banner at the top of the page. Then we remembered another photo taken by Barry Mason in 1957. They are both taken at the same location and they look very similar. Vincent Donnelly is in the original photo and he probably built it!!!. If it's the same boat, it's lasted well. More details when we receive same. Onwards and upwards. 31.12.09
The Sailor Fanning Collection
Here is a great photograph thanks to "The Sailor". It shows three ladies holding the Sam Maguire. We have no idea who the ladies are so we are depending on you, around the world to let us know. Beautiful Balbriggan on a Frosty Morning
Every so often, we have to be reminded that we live in a beautiful town. A Harbour, Lighthouse, Viaduct and Martello tower and then of course there are the wonderful beaches. Maybe we were a fish in a previous life that has us feeling uneasy whenever we are more than a mile inland. This morning, it was beautiful around the Harbour after a hard nights frost and our man was out early to capture the moments for you so you could stay in bed. For those of you abroad who want to come and see Balbriggan, we have a 4 star hotel, The Bracken Court and HERE is their web site and a fine B&B, Havanna House. Click on the thumbnail to see the photos taken this morning before the mist came. 28.12.09

O'Dwyers Christmas Day Swim
This annual event took place, again, in sub zero conditions and although difficult on the participants, it gives it a festive feel. O'Dwyers GAA organise the swim and it attracts quite a crowd as you will see in the photographs. For us, it was a sad occasion as our Jack (Benton) wasn't there to enjoy and photograph the swimmers but we sent along our backup photographer and we think Jack would be proud and we can still hear him saying to us, "get them up on the web quick". We at B.net never wish to embarrass anyone so if you wish a photo of yourself removed, just email us. Click on the thumbnail to view the photographs. We hope you enjoy. 28.12.09

Robert Hurr and Lisa Kelly at The O'Dwers Christmas day Swim
Extra Christmas Lights
We see that more Christmas lights have been put up on the Square in the last few days and they look very well. The Town or Fingal County Council must have got extra money to place the lights directly over the entrance to the Town Hall and on the "Flagpoles" around the square. We took a few photos yesterday evening, around 5, in the freezing cold, especially for those of you abroad. We hope you like. 22.12.09
OAP's Party
Eventually, we are able to bring you photographs from last weeks OAP party in The Bracken Court Hotel. We had forgotten about it, but thanks to Des Darragh, he rang to remind us of this annual event and we were there within minutes. When we got there, we were surprised to see how many were there and our man got lots of photographs. He started off collecting names of those he photographed but there were so many he had to give up. Lawless & Gibbons Funeral Cortege On Drogheda Street
Last week we brought you a marvelous photograph from a newspaper showing The RIC men saluting the cortege as it passed the barracks. Today, we show the same cortege on Drogheda street as it made its way past Bath road and on to Balscadden. We also have a photograph showing the Girl Guides on Church street about to parade. 19.12.09

The Millrace
This pub, formally John D's, opened it's doors to the public last week and on Monday 7th it had it's official opening. Our Lynnette was there along with Tony to take a few photographs. The pub has had a total refit and looks beautiful and is now a very enjoyable place to have a quiet drink. We wish Fergus, Gordon, Tom, and all those involved with the venture, the very best of luck. Click on the thumbnail to see a few pictures of those on the night and also a few photographs of the decor.

Christmas Lights
Again, this year we think the Christmas lights look great thanks to "The Christmas Lights Committee" and Gerry Murphy who puts up the lights. Our Tony went out tonight to get a few "Snaps" to show those of you abroad, what a beautiful town we have and that it looks amazing lit up. We have to say that The Bracken Court Hotel also looks great as does the new pub, The Millrace (Formally John D's) and we will have more about this pub very shortly. Also, if your house looks "Amazing" with Christmas Light, send us your address and we'll photograph it and put on B.net very shortly. Click on the thumbnail to see the town centre. 14.12.09

Vincent Mc Gettrick RIP
The death has occurred of the loving Father, Grand-father and Brother, Vincent Mc Gettrick of the Market Green Balbriggan. He leaves behind his Children Susan and Michael his Grand-Children Denise, Vincent, Andrew, Kevin and Nathain his Son-In-Law Francis and Daughter-In-Law Mary and his Sister Ann. He was very much devoted to his family and friends and will be sadly missed by all. There was only one word to discribe Vincent a Gentleman which was noticed by all who knew him. His short stay in Beaumont hospital confirmed this as every member of the staff that cared for him could not describe him in any other way. The family are very greatful for all the hard work and help of all the staff in St Patricks ward in Beaumont hospital and many thanks are sent to the staff. Vincent will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Joan tomorrow (Monday) 14th of December in St Peter and Pauls Cemetery Balbriggan.
This Years DVD By Jack & Joe, Best Ever.
We wish to thank everyone who have met us about the town and complemented us on this years DVD by Jack and Joe. Jimmy Lawless stopped us the other day to say it was "Brilliant" and that he told all his friends that the DVD was a "must buy". Gus & Salomie Thompsom have already watched it twice because they thought it was so good. One man bought 4 copies as he was so impressed and the general impression is that a running commentary is far more enjoyabe than just seeing lots of photographs coming up one after another with no names. The DVD is available in McGovern's Vision Radio, Geogh's, House of Gifts, Scanlon's garage and The Fuji Photoshop on Station Street. Click on the thumbnail to view the contents.

Robert Beggs Remembered
It's hard to believe a year has passed since the tragic and sudden death of Robert Beggs. Robert was born in Skerries but moved to Balbriggan when he married Gabrielle. Robert is best known for his involvement with The Chamber of Commerce and B.E.A.T Centre. Robert is survived by his widow Gabrielle and children Robert, Karen and Gerard. In recognition of his great work the building at the B.E.A.T centre has been named after him. R.I.P
The Missing Photo From Gala Ball
The other night at the Credit Union AGM, Dolores Doyle said her photo wasn't on B.net and she mentioned her friends also was disappointed their photo didn't appear. So we went searching and we found the "Missing Photo" and we bring it to you today. Our sincere apologies, we don't know how it happened . Better late than never. We don't have all the names so feel free to let us know who's who.
Balbriggan Credit Union AGM Photographs
The AGM of Balbriggan Credit Union took place in the Bracken Court Hotel on Tuesday December 8th in front of what was the largest attendance in recent memory – approx 250 members. It turned out to be a fantastic night in what was a very fine venue – this being the first time the AGM was held here since refurbishment. The outgoing Treasurer reported another strong performance by BCU given the current financial climate and was able to propose a one per cent dividend to members (which was carried). more
2010 Balbriggan Calendar
Balbriggan Fuji Photo on Station street has asked us to let you know that they now have in stock, a Balbriggan Calendar with beautiful scenic photographs taken by our Tony. We think it would make a nice present for someone along with this years DVD by Jack & Joe. The Calendar costs € 12.99 and for a few extra euro they can personalise it by putting one of your photos on the cover.

Lawless & Gibbons Funeral Cortege
Here is an intriguing photograph that we came across in the scrap book given to us last year. It shows the funeral cortege passing the RIC Barracks (now Tesco) and strangely, the RIC officers salute as it passes. We include a recent photograph of the same spot and we also bring you a newspaper cutting from the Irish Independent 2 days after the event. Makes interesting reading. Click to view. 10.12.09
Girl Guides 1940 On Laytown Beach

A cracking shot which we hope you enjoy. Click to enlarge. 09.12.09

Car Service In Balbriggan
We at B.net are trying to use as much local businesses as we can and yesterday we had our car serviced. We used to go to Swords (Des Darcy) for this but this time we decided to try Balbriggan Service Centre at the rear of the new AIB Bank and we were very happy with the service. We left the 4x4 in at 9am and it was ready at 2pm and it only cost € 200.00 for a full 78,000 miles service. If you are concerned about warranty, you don't need to go to the main dealer any more due to the "Block Exemption 2005" law. Ring Marika, John or Paul on 690 5608 to book your car in for a service, tell them we sent you.

Christmas Lights Switched On
One of the biggest crowds seen for the turning on of the Christmas lights. Balbriggan.net was there and Lynnette McNally captured the essence of the night with some lovely photographs of the children enjoying the start of the festive season in the town. Cathaoirleach, Monica Harford was there along with Fingal Mayor Ciaran Byrne. We have so many photographs that it isint possible to provide all the names but if Lynnette took your photo, it will be here. Wait till you see the crowds and the joy on the children's faces. Well done Lynnette, a job well done. Click on the thumbnail to view the photos. 08.12.09

753 Visitors Yesterday, 4338 Pages Viewed
We have just received information from our service provider ( 1&1 in London) to tell us that we had 753 visitors to the site yesterday, Monday and that these visitors viewed 4338 pages. We are delighted with these statistics and it shows we are doing something right. Our success, we believe, is that we constantly update the site, we bring you great Balbriggan photos as sent into us by you and we never "Down" Balbriggan. It's a great town and we want to promote it as such. This is a good news web site an we hope to always keep it that way. Thanks again. Loreto Convent & 1930's Church Precession
Three great photographs for you today from our "Brown Envelope Collection". The first two are very early Loreto Convent postcards and they show The Concert Hall and The Tennis Courts. The last photo is definitely 1930's and it could be The Eucharistic Congress of 1932. The photographer was standing outside the Church, maybe on one of the gate pillars, so you can see what was opposite the Church where the Car park is now. Comments welcome on this photo please. Click the thumbnail to view the pictures. 08.12.09
Chamber Of Commerce Gala Ball
The annual Gala Ball took place last night in The Bracken Court Hotel and B.net was there to record the event and to show you the style that was on show. Three awards were made, the first to Declan Furlong of Landmark Estates, The second to Gerry Fitzmaurice of The North County Leader and the third to Brian Murray, Town Clerk. It was a lovely night and the hotel staff ( especially the kitchen staff ) received an applause for the excellent food and service. Well done to Chamber members, Sean Staunton, Tom Walsh, Joe English and Tony Murphy for a well organised night. We at B.net would like to thank everyone for their co-operation on the night and we hope you enjoy the 50 photographs you are about to see. We hope we have the names correct but feel free to point out any errors. Click on the thumbnail. 06.12.09
Hits To Balbriggan.net Soars Ahead
The number of people visiting B.net continues to rise at a incredible rate. We are, by far the most popular web site in the town, miles ahead of anyone else and one of the top community web sites in the country. Our home page receives about 600 hits per day but some people go direct to the news page, bypassing the hits counter. For this reason, we are going to show you the latest figures and the good news we have is that, per day, we receive between 3000 and 4000 page views. This is a tribute to the team, The late Jack Benton, Joe Curtis, Tony Healy and all the people who supply us with photographs. Thanks again. Click on the thumbnail to see the details. 06.12.09

Here is a photograph that was sent to us, we don't normally bring you this sort of stuff but we had to make an exception for this. Whoever created this must have spent hours doing so. The headline that came with the photo was "FIFA have granted their permission for a replay of the last half of the extra time section of Wednesday night’s game to take place in Stade de France, Ireland will be playing right to left ..."
Click on thumbnail to enlarge, it's just brilliant. Also, we have added the latest photograph taken of Tiger Woods....Poor Tiger.

New Motorway Service Stations Under Construction
Anyone traveling to Dublin recently will have noticed the speed restriction and traffic cones just south of Balbriggan, just before you go under the flyover that leads of to Murtaghs of Ballough. As far as we are aware, theses are the first Motorway Service Stations in the country. They will have very little impact on local business because if you do decide to use them, you will then have to travel on and exit at Swords, through two roundabouts, and then back onto the northbound lane to Balbriggan. We'll keep you posted on this. Click on the thumbnail to view the photos.02.12.09
Ann (Nan) Richardson RIP
The death has occurred of Ann (Nan) RICHARDSON, (née Boylan) of Hamilton Park Nursing Home and formerly Craoibhin Park, Balbriggan. Reposing at Hamilton Park from 6pm today, Tuesday. Removal tomorrow, Wednesday, to Ss. Peter and Paul's Church, Balbriggan, arriving for Mass at 10am. Burial afterwards in St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. We extend our deepest sympathies to her family, especially Nancy, a very close friend of the team here. 01.12.09

Joe "The Doggyman"
One of the team has two beautiful Pomeranians and they needed their coats trimmed so we decided to put The Doggyman to the test. We had heard he was good so we thought we'd give him a try. He collected the Poms and brought them to his grooming studio in Garristown and a few hours later gave us a call to collect the Dogs and get a few pictures. As you will see, Joe did a great job, trimmed their hair, washed them, clipped their nails etc and generally gave them a once over to make sure they were okay. We like to support local business so if you have a dog that needs grooming, give The Doggyman a try, you wont be disappointed. Click on the thumbnails to see the pictures. 29.11.09

The McAleers Win Award
One of the team was walking up Drogheda Street the other day when out of the blue he was viciously attacked, taken to the ground, verbally attacked and told it would happen again unless he put the photograph on the web of The McAleers with Monica Harford presenting them with their prize which they won at the Awards Night. So, out of total fear, here is your photograph which we hope you like. By the way, that's all a joke but you see, we have 5 line of text to fill here and we couldn't think of anything else to say. Lets hope your relations in Oz get to see the photo. 29.11.09

Bishop Dermot O'Mahony Visits Balbriggan
Bishop Dermot O'Mahony visited Balbriggan at the weekend to welcome the new Parish Priest to the town, Fr. Eugene Taaffe. After Mass, The Cathaoirleach, Monica Harford, invited everybody back to the Town Hall for light refreshments. There, Cllr. Grainne Kilmurray welcomed everybody and she handed over to Monica Harford who thanked the Bishop for taking the time to come to the town and then presented him with a small gift. Friends of Fr. Eugene were also there to share in the excitement. We wish him well in his new appointment and judging by the amount of people there from his previous parish, we think we have a well respected PP. Girl Guides At Balbriggan Station
Here is a great photograph from our "Brown Envelope" collection. We are fairly sure it's the Girl Guides (It's the uniform that gives them away) and they are photographed at the station obviously heading somewhere. Don't forget, we are always looking for photographs with a Balbriggan connection. Telephone us on 086-8054 275 if you have some photographs you'd like to share with fellow briggers. 21.11.09

What's This, Another Tech Photo
After the response to the last Tech Photo, it's a wonder we are bringing you another. However, there could be a valid reason for the poor reaction, maybe the un-named pupils weren't from the town. Two photos for you today from the wonderful Benton/Curtis Collection, the second shows our Joe receiving the Captain's Prize from Gerald Gallen. Thanks Joe. Peg O'Carroll Surprise 80th Party
Peg got the shock of her life when she entered the "Martello Room" of The Bracken Court Hotel on Saturday. She thought she was going for a quiet meal with her family but how wrong was she. A huge crowd was there to share in Peg's celebrations. All her family was there along with extended family and all the Grandchildren. Looking beautiful and fit as a fiddle, Peg looked like she thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the night. We here at B.net wish Peg a belated Happy Birthday. Well done Peg, many more happy birthdays to you. Your family hired our man to go along and get as many pictures and we think he did a great job. Click on the thumbnail to view them. 17.11.09
Balbriggan Community College
The college held and OpenDay/Open Night during the week and our man was employed to take photographs to show the fabulous facilities they have there and something our Tony said to us, a lovely atmosphere whereby the teachers were more like a friend to the pupils than someone in authority. We promised the school we would have more photograph up on the web by the weekend and we always like to keep our promises. We will be adding more photos on Monday. Sack Of Balbriggan Funeral
Our latest addition is a real gem given to us by Vincent Donnelly. It shows the funeral cortege of Seamus Lawless & Sean Gibbons as it made it's way from the Church to Balscadden. We can only imagine the anger the residents of Balbriggan had towards to the Black & Tans at this time and in this photograph the photographer daren't show any of the faces of those in the cortege. Originally a black and white but we have added  some colour to give it a new presentation. This photograph is now available at the usual outlets. Click to enlarge. 13.11.09

13.11.09 Update. We have all the names now. Thanks to Ann Hamilton
Community College Open Night
Balbriggan Community College Open Night took place last Thursday the 5th November. Tony was there on the night to capture the staff and students in action. The night was a huge success. Potential students got the opportunity to experience the wide range of subjects on offer in the school. Staff and students put a lot of preparation into the night. It was fantastic to see so many students willing to give of their own time and come back to school at night. It was testimony to the great rapport that exists in the school between staff and students. The huge turnout of 5th and 6th class students and their parents/guardians made it all worth while.
Earlier that day the schools annual sponsored walk took place. To date 5,600 euro has been raised to help fund the wide range of extra curricular activities offered in the school. It is hoped that when all money has been collected something in the region of 8,000 euro will have been banked.Applications for 1st year 2010  have been flooding in since last Friday. The closing date for applications is Noon on friday the 27th November 09.Successful applicants will be contacted by late December. Click on the thumbnail to see the pictures.

1950's Bridge Street
We now believe we have all the names from this photo. Previously we had Brannigan but it's Branagan and it's not the Gunner, but Fred Thompson. The man beside him is The Miler Reid and then its The Glazer, James Carton. The man on the other side of the road is probably Bill Fox and not Peter Keating. The Garda is more than likely Garda Kenny as opposed to The Whistler Boylan. Thanks to everyone who has helped here. If you bought this print in the shops, we will replace it when we reprint it, with the corrections. Click on the thumbnail. 09.11.09
Dublin Street Photo. We need your help
This photograph is intriguing us. The Feast of Corpus Christi is in June, yet it looks cold in this photo with fires lighting and heavy coats on the locals. Leaves on the trees suggests June. Electricity has arrived in the town, so it has to be after 1933. There is a banner over Scanlons, can you suggest what it might say. Are they Corpus Christi flags on the buildings? Click on the thumbnail Update. We have some comments added to this page now
The Dining Hall Loreto Convent
How about this for a photograph, it's actually a postcard. We have no idea of the year, maybe 1940's or even earlier. Let us know what you think. Does this photo stir any memories for you? A reminder to everyone, if you have memories of Balbriggan past, or know someone who has, and would be willing to record them for the web, contact us. Back to this photo, click to enlarge. 07.11.09
The Gaelic League 1948

The Monsters Of Hampton Green
Hampton Green must have been the scariest part of Balbriggan this Halloween according to our man. Our Tony could hardly keep his camera steady with the fear that gripped him this Halloween as he struggled to photograph the vampires. Jessie, Jake, Amy, Ella, Molly, Erina and others terrified the locals with their realistic costumes and screams of "Help" could be heard as they called to each house to Trick or Treat. Dublin Street Photograph
Here is a smashing photograph that Austin Grogan dropped into us. Austin would like to know if anyone can put a year to it, we see electricity has arrived in the town, the original cross is on the church. At a guess we believe it's late 1930's or early 1940's but no doubt there is someone out there who can help more accurately. Thanks a million for the photo Austin, this is what's needed to keep the site alive. Click to enlarge. 06.11.09

Here are two great photographs taken by Jimmy Hamilton from his house on the Skerries Road. It's amazing how clear they can been seen although we have just checked on Google Earth that the distance involved is only 40 miles. On this day the view was particularly good and Jimmy had captured it well. The Cooley Mountains are also visible. 06.11.09

Jack Benton RIP
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Jack Benton. Jack leaves behind a beautiful family, Chris, his wife of 56 years and children, Marian, Pauline & Fergus. Jack will be a huge loss to us all and especially to this web site which he contributed to so often. Jack passed away peacefully, yesterday afternoon after 83 and a half years, the half was very important to him. We extend our sincere condolences to Chris and the family and to Jack's many friends including Joe & Margaret Curtis whom Jack visited every Sunday morning for nearly 40 years. From myself (Tony) I would like to thank Jack for being a small, but significant part of my life and it was a joy to meet him whenever he called to see me or vice versa. Jack, we thank you sincerely for being such a wonderful person whom everybody loved and he never had a bad word to say about anyone. We miss you Jack, God Bless.... Bridge Street Then & Now
Our man is besotted by this 1950's picture, so much so, he has attempted to recapture the exact scene. He even asked passers by to stand in certain places as per the original. Anyway, after about an hour of refusals, he gave up and just took the photo as was. Within inches, we think he is spot on to the original. Click on the thumbnail and see what you think. 28.10.09

1950's Bridge Street Balbriggan Photo
Here is a brilliant photo of Bridge Street Balbriggan c1950. We are working on this photograph and with the help of several people we have lots of the names. Unfortunately, these people, closest the camera, are suffering the effects of a poor lens but we still think we should be able to identify them. We believe that the Gunner Kelly is one of them and a Reid of Fullam Tce is also mentioned but does anyone know who the lady with the pram is? We hope to bring you this photograph in its entirety very shortly with the names. The photograph was taken at the corner of Bridge Street/Clonard Street. Thanks to JH, and Mr A for all their help with this photo. Click to enlarge this section of the photo and maybe suggest names of those in it. 27.10.09

Glenn Brogan Marries Bridget Hoare
This beautiful couple from Balrothery tied the knot in St. Peter & Paul's Church Balbriggan on Friday. The Celebrant was Fr. Padraig O'Sullivan and the best man was Christopher Nugent and Crystal McGuffin was the chief Bridesmaid. The Gods were certainly looking down of "The Brogans" as the weather was magnificent and this made taking the photographs at Ardgillan Castle a real pleasure. After that it was off to The Newgrane Hotel in Navan. Our Tony was the photographer along with Lynnette McNally and they tell us the couple were a dream to photograph. We here at B.net wish Glen & Bridget much love and happiness  and of course good health. Click on the thumbnail to view about 20 photographs.

Melanie Sherwin & Rory McCaffrey Get Married.
Locals, Melanie & Rory tied the knot yesterday in St. Peter & Paul's Church Balbriggan. After the ceremony, they then went to Ardgillan Castle where photographer and brother, Keith, took some lovely shots of the bridal party. They then headed to The City North Hotel Stamullen to party the night away to the music of The Great Escape. As a present to Melanie & Rory, their good friend, Pip O'Connor, now living in Australia, hired a professional photographer to get as many photographs as he could on the night and they are here now. Shauna Gallagher & Chris Evers Debs
Another Debs, this time our man was sent to Flemington Park to photograph a beautiful couple, Shauna Gallagher and Chris Evers. Tony got some lovely family photos along with some neighbours who dropped in for a drink. Oscar was a bit put out by all the attention Shauna was getting but a few doggie biscuits saw him right. Congratulations Shauna, you looked stunning as did Chris, we hope you had an enjoyable night up in Dundalk. Our Man on Pirate Radio
Firstly, we have to say that this has nothing to do with Balbriggan, the only reason it's here is because one of the team was a pirate radio DJ for several years but some locals don't believe it. Our Tony used to broadcast on several radio stations in the '90's, Radio Dublin and the local pirate for Balbriggan, Pulsar 98fm. The Two Tony's Radio Show, as it was called, was a mixture of comedy sketches, banter and jokes and we came across this cd of one of their shows. As we said, what you are about to hear is nothing to do with the town but if your interested in hearing two guys have a really great time and enjoying each others company, click on the thumbnail to download one show of Tony Lynch and Tony Healy from 2001. It will take about a minute to 90 seconds to download and it may look like nothing is happening, so just be aware of that..12.09.09

Balbriggan Golf Club Present Cheque's to AWARE & Hospice.
The local golf club presented two worthy causes with cheque's to help with their running costs. Oliver Smith was there on behalf of AWARE and Dee Liannane was there on behalf of St. Francis Hospice Raheny and they both expressed their gratitude to the golf club for their very generous presentation. Great to see that during a recession, charity donations are not the first to be affected. 09.09.09

Aisling Cummins Debs Photographs.
Aisling Cummins & John Carney both looked amazing when they posed for photographs by our Tony at Seapoint. Gertie Sheilds hired a professional photographer to make sure she got the best possible photographs of her beautiful Granddaughter. Aisling, who used to go to the Loreto in Balbriggan, then made her way to The Headford Arms Hotel in Kells with John and told us she had a great night. Enjoy the photographs here. 07.09.09 Update, we have been asked to add two photographs of Rebecca & Matthew Shields to Aislings page, so please click again to see two beautiful children.

Storm Hits Town in 1977
Here is a photograph of the harbour in the 70's when it was hit by a bad storm, so bad in fact that it demolished the harbour wall. The lighthouse became an island and a boat anchored there was in danger of breaking its moorings and being washed up on the beach. The next time you're down by the lighthouse, look for the new section. This photograph is very kindly given to us by Sailor Fanning. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge. 03.09.09

The Lookalikes Are Back!
Iconic 80’s band The Lookalikes are back for a once-off reunion concert at The Button Factory in Temple Bar on Saturday, September 5th. Once signed to Riva Records in the UK and EMI in Ireland, The Lookalikes are probably the best known Irish band never to make it huge internationally, having had two number one singles in Ireland with Can I Take You Home Tonight and Baby Don’t Leave. Both of these can be listened to and downloaded at the following FTP site:  ftp://bursaar.com/TheLookalikes The gig celebrates the 30th anniversary of the band’s first coming together, and it’s sure to be the perfect opportunity for people of a ‘certain vintage’ to get together and show the youngsters what partying is really all about!  Tickets are on sale now at www.tickets.ie.
