The old Town Hall was built in 1901. The existing Carnegie Library was completed in 1906. The last meeting of Balbriggan Town Council in the old building was held on 14th January 2003.

Work on the redevelopment commenced in October 2003 with demolition and clearance of the site completed by December 2003. Construction work commenced in January 2004.

The Town Council offices opened to the public in January 2006. The library opened to the public in November 2006. The local county council office will open to the public on 22nd January 2007.The developer of the Georges Square development is Moriarty Group in partnership Balbriggan Town Council and Fingal County Council. The contractors on the development are ABM Construction Ltd advised by Ashlin Coleman Heelan Architects, Molony Millar Structural Engineers and White Young Green, Quantity Surveyors

The new development comprises civic offices for Balbriggan Town Council and Fingal County Council, an extended library facility on two levels, retail units, new senior citizens centre, apartments and an extension to the Bracken Court Hotel along with an underground car park. The total floor area of the development is circa 900 sq. metres.
 
 

There is a reception area and library on the ground floor with a staircase leading to further library facilities on the first floor. The Fingal County Council offices and meeting rooms are also located on the first floor. Balbriggan Town Council are located on the second floor of the new building and their facilities include a council chamber, offices for staff and a community hall and room for use by the local community at a reasonable cost.

The development also includes the re-development of Georges Square which provides for new paving, seating, tree planting, flag poles, public lighting, traffic and pedestrian management.
