The Lighthouse as it would look like with the dome replaced.
PRESS STATEMENT
Swords, 26th October 2005
FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL STILL HOPING THAT LIGHTHOUSE AT BALBRIGGAN HARBOUR CAN BE RESTORED

Local T.D. and Green Party Leader, Trevor Sargent, has once again sought the restoration of the lighthouse at Balbriggan Harbour which has been without a lantern since 1960. Fingal County Council has stated that it still wishes to see the lighthouse restored, but added that “unfortunately the F.Á.S. scheme at Bremore Castle is not yet at a stage where additional project work can be taken and therefore no commitment at this stage can be given as to when the lighthouse can be given detailed consideration.”

This is how the Lighthouse should look
In response Deputy Sargent said that he would welcome contact from any other authority or person who could provide the necessary resources to have the lighthouse restored, given that Fingal County Council was interested in seeing the restoration carried out but, unfortunately, due to lack of resources was not in a position to do this work immediately.

If there is one thing about the town that people say to us at B.net, it's "Can the top of the lighthouse not be put back". If FCC would like to see this happen and it's money that's the problem, surely, out there, there are some very wealthy Balbrigganers, at home or abroad whom singularly or collectively could come up with the finance. If you feel you can help restore the second oldest working Lighthouse in Ireland, please contact us here. info@balbriggan.net giving your name and address and we'll pass the petition on to Local representatives or email Trevor direct at the above address.
Rekindle the Light
By
Roger Turner.
Balbriggan Lighthouse, without the dome, Is like having a house that isn't a home.
Like the old town clock with only one hand, Or our wonderful beach, without any sand.

To us who have reached that certain age, When they stole our dome, it sent us in a rage.
Whatever were the old town fathers about, For they let the dome go without a shout?

Lets start a campaign to have it restored, For if are together, we can't be ignored, We should rekindle the light, starting today, And rebuild the dome, without any delay.
