Hello again Tony, I've just spent
a very enjoyable couple of hours on your fantastic website,(still
cant find my original email, never mind.) I cant believe the
changes that have taken place. It really is a big town now
eh?
The last time I was over was in 1985, we came to see U2 and
staid in Balbriggan. We had a fantastic week-end, meeting
up with some old friends( we stayed with Trish and Freddie
Mcgarrigle). I remember the first thing we did was,buy a brunch
and a packet of Tato, ha ha. That was our staple diet when
we came on holiday in the sixties and seventies. Do you remember
the boys coming over from Glasgow every year? I think we had
been coming over since the 1930's. It's amazing even now,
when I meet my old friends in Glasgow, we always get round
to talking about camp, that's what we called it, not so much
Balbriggan, camp. That's because we stayed in tents for up
to four weeks at a time. Can you imagine the young ones doing
that nowadays? No chance. We had the time of our lives. If
you do remember, I wonder if you remember big Peter Callaghan,
he was one of the organisers. Anyway, he has his own loft
conversion company here in Glasgow and i got in touch with
him by email, about four weeks ago,to see if he could convert
my loft. I hadn't seen or spoke to him for quite a few years,so
anyway, he arranges to come and see me to give me a quote
and he say's " I'll bring my photo album, the one with
all the photos from camp". Sure enough he turns up the
next day, we get the loft business out the way and then he
brings out the album. It was brilliant seeing all the old
faces again. There was one of me aged nine in 1966,i was quite
surprised, I thought i was too much of a mummy's boy to go
camping to Ireland for nearly a month ha ha. There was a couple
of my two young brothers, Brian and Gerry as well. We spent
a nice couple of hours reminiscing about Balbriggan. Tony,
I wonder if you could do me a favour? If you know Frank Meehan,
could you give him my kindest regards and if he is online,
perhaps you could pass on my email address to him, i would
love to say hello to him. I haven't spoken to him since that
week-end in 1985. If you could mention me to any of the other
names I mentioned in my original email, I would be much obliged.
By the way Tony, Is Veronica Kenny, Eileen Kenny's sister?
Eileen was agood Friend of mine back then. She had a brother
we called the Rua, if im not mistaken. Here I go again, all
these names are flashing through my mind. I'll mention two
more and then i'll let you go Tony. Tubby and Gerry Walsh,
absolutely brilliant guys. ok,just one more,a really good
friend to me Slim Corchrane ,great guy. Keep up the good work
Tony and I will pass on the site details to as many as the
boys as I can.
I've already told my two brothers about it. By for now.
