They showed incredible responsibility and maturity as they took meter readings and devised ways to conserve water within the school. The Irish Coastguard also visited to school to highlight the dangers that can surround water and the children got to see the equipment they use. Getting the Green Flag was not an easy journey however, as the school had to demonstrate their ability to minimise litter and waste and conserve energy in order to renew their first two green flags. As well as this they had to show an understanding of the importance of water in our lives. But the pupils and staff of Balrothery completed that journey with flying colours and were ecstatic to accept their third Green Flag and proudly watch as it now sways in the wind outside an environmentally friendly Balrothery N.S. The next leg of the journey is to obtain the Green Flag for 'Travel' and we look forwared to this challenging yet rewarding task in the coming months.
