I am residing in England on the border of London and the county of Kent. I was delighted with my visit to Balbriggan in Oct. 2066 when researching the Buchanan family of Stephenstown and the Kearns family of Killougher. I would like to find a good source on the social history of Balbriggan and surrounding area. Any suggestions please

This site provides wonderful information, i'm doing research on cities, counties, and towns all over ireland, i'm writing a book, based in ireland and i'm trying to find the best place to put the mainpart of the book. I hope that is all right with your town. I've always been interested in Ireland and putting ireland in one of my books seems like the best way to acknowledge my interest and make it part of what i love to do. Your site is wonderful. Again i hope you wouldn't mind if i put your town in my book! Sincerely, Amanda Weaver

HI.My grandparents used to own the old boathouse beneath the martello tower.Fred and Pat Lee,they had 12 children and spent every summer there from Blackrock in Dublin.I can vaguely remember sleeping in rows of bunkbeds in the house with all my cousins before Fred donated the building to the council for a youthhall supposedly...obviously they didn't do that with it!!I was wondering if anyone had any pics of it in its heyday or knew any of the Lee kids that lived there. One of them married a Guildea from Balbriggan and lives in oz now.My mums name is Moyra.Fred and Pat are still alive and well in dublin.I would love to be able to give them a photo of their old holiday home.they would cry if they saw the state of it these days!!!great website thanx. You're in Luck Lynda, click HERE to see the photo you are looking for which is courtesy of David Brangan. Interactive Menu's and a game. "Where In Balbriggan" Just some suggestions for next year. The site is still great, keep it up. Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year. B Hi Brandon,
good suggestion, unfortunately time is always the problem, but maybe next year.

Love the website, well done to all involved. Born & bred in the Brig and have fond memories of the Balbriggan Breakaway Festival. Wot ever happened to that? It used to make my summer. Duck derby on the stream, tug of war on the beach, pet show in tesco (quinsworth) car park, the parade, the M'Lady Erin and a few other things. Anyone know why it stopped? It can't have been to make way for the arts festival coz thats in october. Those were the days! Any way, just to say again, great sie & keep up the good work.

Wonderful photos, and website. My Great Great Grandmother was Mary Hope. She was born at Clonard Station, Balbriggan, County Meath, Ireland. Her parents were Michael Hope and Missella Brogan. Mary Hope had married Thomas Coyle, son of Michael and Catharina Fitzpatrick and Thomas was born in Dublin, Ireland on Jan. 14, 1853. Would you be able to direct me to where I could find out family information on the Hope and Brogan families? Thank you for this wonderful website. Just seeing the pictures alone, lets me feel a closeness to my ancestors. Sincerely, Mary Louise Dwyer

Great photos, especially of the beach and harbour. Nice and clean and peaceful - they certainly bring back memories. But unfortunately the photos no longer paint the full picture. No images of the illegal traveller encampment on scenic Seabanks that has generated filth and hassle over the summer. Nothing to indicate that it's not always safe to walk on the beautiful front beach, after several vicious unprovoked attacks in the past months. I love living in Balbriggan, but some things are happening there now that I absolutely abhor, and the ordinary people seem to be powerless to improve matters.

hey there, its sad to see that people would sign the guest book as a joke. come on guys what a waste of everybody's time - the people who make this site and us genuine people who enjoy looking at this site. for example i read my way through the guestbook then to my horror i read some nasty stuff thats all a fake. this kind of carry on should be kept for other sites like the lastest craze BEBO. come on now people grow up!!!!!!
Comment by B.net team---Well said Debbie, it would be terrible if we had to stop the Guest Book because of a few timewasters. Thanks.

Aine and I are in contact frequently; she is a treasure to anyone who knows her! Here's to the new Mc Mahon on the way!!! Yee-Haaw!!!! Response to Biblet Crosby's comments. At last someone has stood up to be counted! I was so pleased you have voiced what for so many years people have been saying under their breaths. You are of course right, Balbriggan needs a community centre and more things for the youth to do rather than drinking their young lives away. I live in London and each time I come back to Balbriggan, I really dispair. Well done again and hopefully those commissionaires will sit up and listen rather than posing outside their new offices and the cinema! Best Regards

It's refreshing to view such a well thought out web-site such as this - at last there's a recording of the town's historical values, memories with an ever glancing eye towards the future. My grumble would be with the lack of facilities, what have our youth to look forward to - concrete estates, congested streets. It's time for the focus of our town commissionaires and governing bodies to look forward and stop the continuous building and ensure that sporting facilities are improved - not one track and field in the town, no sporting centre of any great standard - sure there's the cinema now - great but what about the lack of active culture that runs so evidently down the drains of our Balbriggan sewers - under age drinking is a direct result - Those with any ounce of political sway towards the development of the town should be ashamed of themselves - it's a disgrace that the unity of each community has been strangled and for what, to line the wealthiest pockets with more fool's gold....

While I welcome the initiative of this website and it is quite newsy which is good, I would say it needs further development of perhaps events and classes or courses in Balbriggan. I only moved to Balbrigan in March of this year and it would have been very useful to be able to obtain this information on a single site.

Congratulations to Tom Watters, he was one of a team of six swimmers to complete the Round Ireland Swim Expediton....the team arrived back to Carrickfinn beach in Donegal on friday 24th Aug after 8 weeks circumnavigating the country by swimming it! Well they made it back in one piece and achieved a world record...all Toms family in Gormanston and his in-laws, the McNallys, in Balbriggan are proud as punch of him, especially me his wifey....check out the pictures on www.roundirelandswim.ie

Pity that's gone it was a great gathering point after the good auld Milestone. I hope to visit again before xmas so hopefully the square will be finished then and the pop in open Grace said it was to re open. Hi, I would like to praise you for your wonderful website and for all the great work you are doing putting Balbriggan on the map! However, in my opinion, I'd like to say that there is no need for all the flashing adverts. They are very distracting and take away from the website making it look very superficial. All the best, BT.

In this weather dont you just miss heading off down the back strand at full tide and leppin in to the cold Irish sea from the pier. Swimming up to the beach, running back on to the pier and doing it all again. If the pier was still there I think the back strand would get a lot more "business" and would look a lot better.

Best of luck to the round ireland expedition swimming team. I was on the beach at carrickfinn in donegal on sunday morning (2nd July) to see them off along with about a thousand people. Included in the team is a gormanston man, Tom Watters, whose wife is Linda Mc Nally of the mc nally funeral home people. My girlfriend is one of his sisters. This is a huge fundraising event for the RNLI and also a world record attempt as they try to circumnavigate ireland, hopefully they will be swimming past balbriggan beach in the next couple of days and we can get a good crowd of locals down to the shore to see them. If anyone needs further information, contact me by email or check up their website http://www.roundirelandswim.ie/ Best of look Tom!!!

Well uh yeah i am here most of the time and its a cool place to hang out especially witrh the GF and the lads around the place. But be warned. The bouncers in O Sheas pub are renowned for being the worlds biggest assholes!

I moved to balbriggan last june 21st. As I still work on the south side of Dublin and not home much I'm finding it hard to make friends. I'm delighted to have found this web page. Keep up the good work. I love the beach so much and thats the reason I moved my family here.
