It was submitted by Name: terry boyle Location: belfast Date: 29/12/2011 comment: I am looking at the photograph of the pioneers in 1935 and see my grandfather Tom Cunningham of 33 High St. My mother is Ettie Boyle who married Tim Boyle. He met her when he was posted to the Balbriggan Branch of the Northern Bank. Both are still living in Cushendall in the glens of Antrim aged 86 & 85yrs. We used to spend our holidays in Balbriggan going to Kitty White's for ice cream and down to the harbour to watch the boats come in. And racing up to the station to see a steam train passing. I think the Weldons lived next door and my aunt Monica lived in '33' with her husband Patsy up until their recent death's. The house was sold last year. When we were children we thought the hill on High St was the biggest hill in the world. Fishermen used to throw a hank of fish inside the front door on their way past coming up from the boats in the evenings. I have no doubt the residents of High St looked forward to the Boyle family arriving each year, all 10 of them spilling out of a car made for 4 and terrorising the whole street for a fortnight. I am sure none could wait the the calm to descent once again. Great days - gone.

Evie Brailsford/Geraghty lived beside us in Clonard Street. She was the person who did my Shirley Temple ringlets on a Saturday night for Sunday Mass. When she married Richard Geraghty, I was the flower girl at their wedding. She was a kind, laughing, life loving person who has always remained in my fond memories over the years. From 1960 to 1966 I came with St. Francis Boys Guild where we camped, the first site being at the beach where a bandstand was built, then in a site nextto the tower and finally at a site next to the church. I can recall many happy hours in John Dempseys (J.Ds as we christened it )Some of the lads married local girls and settled in Balbriggan. My last visit was in 1990 but sometime in the near future I hope to visit the birthplace of my Grandfether in Belmullet Co/Mayo and if I can make it I will definately make a point of seeing Balbriggan for the finaltime. Looking forward to it.

Does anyone have any pics from the birdshow that used to be held in the Town Hall in December each year ? Also, seeing a post there from the Conk Wherity made me think of the good old Al Capone Disco with the Conk, the Mousey and even the great Malo himself on the turntables in the Town Hall or in O'Dwyers. We should hold an Al Capone revival. Below is the result of your feedback form. The town looks so well from all the hard work and investment of the people. Everyone should be so proud of how the town has improved and grown since I grew up there. It is a remarkable achivement. I have the photo of the fall colours outside Wavin, just by Millers Lane as my screen Saver. so it certainly makes me feel I am going to walk out my front door and find myself there!! Barry Geraghty took a great photo. All the others of the high tide and the night photo with the lights down to the mountains of Mourne make me pretty homesick. Is Barry Geraghity the son or grandson of Mr. Geraghtiy who lived across the street from us in Clonard Street? Wonderful Photos. Thanks for all you do. I know that all of us abroad really appreciate you and all the teams hard work in keeping the webpage up and running. Happy Thanksgiving from all of us in the US and Merry Christmas to anyone I know. I have seen many familiar faces this past year- the late Shiela Reynolds(RIP), Mrs. George Richardson, Pam Regan-Colm. Owen Callaghan, the reunion in Clonard Street, etc. Sometimes I recognize the faces but cannot always remember the names. Best regards, Caith. Below is the result of your feedback form. The historical links are especially treasured; my family emigrated to England in the 1950s but we kept in touch with relatives and spent many holidays back in 'Bal', which my parents Joe and Rita Curtis always called 'home'. The aerial photos are a real treasure, I spotted a few places I knew in childhood. And the Pathé news footage is also very interesting - my parents spoke of the sacking of Balbriggan as other things that happened in the Troubles. Thanks for doing a great job! We traveled to many lovely places, Waterford, Dublin and many side trips in villages whose names escape me. By far, personally, I enjoyed our days spent in Balbriggan most. We stayed locally in a lovely townhome near the High Street. I believe the address was Church Street, in a develpoment called Laragh. Two wonderful people, Lomey and Gus greeted us, as they had the keys and gave us a great welcome. I am wondering if anyone here knows of this couple and if the Sunshine House/Bosnia Shop is still operating. I am planning another visit and want to spend the entire time in your lovely town. I welcome anyone with information regarding the couple as well as anyone willing to chat with a reasonably sane, :-), American who can't wait to return to what I believe is a most extraordinary place. Well I am glad its not just me because I also thought it was a total waste of money. The idea was there, but they should have painted on the name "Smyth & Co, Hosiery Company 1780-1980" or something to that effect. I agree with the lady who said it looked like scaffolding with plastic over it. Most people had to be told what it was all about whereas with lettering on it would have made a huge difference. Below is the result of your feedback form. It was submitted by Name: Julie Location: Balbriggan Date: 16th March 2010 comment: I have'nt visited the site in a few weeks and I am such a big fan but I was pleasantly surprised to see that I am not the only one who feels that there is a lack of irish spirit and tradition in some places of our lovely town. It was only this time last year that I was praising and enjoying such a wonderful parade and I must say the organisers do such a fantastic job every year. It really brings the locals and other community members together in the town for probably the only time in the year. We should be proud of this event and the support of this should not stop with only the parade goers and sponsors. It takes such a huge effort to achieve such a succesful result. But what I will say is that after the lovely parade the spirit continues in the local pubs who I was ashamed to see last year very very few had played any contribution in keeping the spirit going. I really think St.Patricks Day is a time that they benefit extremely well from punters and it would'nt take a lot to provide a little bit of Irish cheer to acompany the uisce beatha. I was very disappointed last year and it has not gone unnoticed to just me I am glad to see. It's like everything in life 'if you don't use it you lose it' and custom of a premises definitely falls into that category for me. Thanks to all the organisers of the parade and to the premises which have already played a great part including the hotel which looks lovely and the Bridal shop. I saw a few white baloons outside the millrace tonight and could be tempted to pop my head in there tomorrow, which may I mention is a wonderful new establishment in the town and should they continue with their efforts shall remain so for a long time we hope. It would be great if Moriarty could put a few flags on his empty flag poles up outside supervalu seeing as it is on the parade route. Slainte to you all Below is the result of your feedback form. She is allowed to have her own views about Balbriggan good or bad & by reacting negatively towards her you are only proving her views towards us are correct. Balbriggan is not the small town we grew up in & has changed a lot. It has its good days & bad days & does not always smell of roses. I love this town but there are some places that make me feel like I am a stranger & shouldnt be there, & I am not just talking about the new areas. This site is supposed to promote the town & if people start using the site to pick on people just because of their views Carla may be right & I hope she isn't. I remember working in what was the Harbour Inn, (Now Balbriggan Pharmacy opposite Deli Buurger), when he and Nancy started going out. I used to serve them drink! We used to have a great laugh. He was a lovely fella, and even when I lived in the UK, when I would meet him on visits home, whenever that may be, he always had a warm greeting with his champion smile. Great guy. Nancy, please receive my condolences for yourself and Kayleigh. Rest in peace old son. Below is the result of your feedback form. I have just seen a photo in your archive news of my father Sean Reilly's shop in Drogheda Street. It was 18 Drogheda Street, next door to Charlie Corr's. I was born in the room above the shop in 1957. My mother Betty ran the shop. She was a Cross on her father's side, a Corcoran on her mother's. Sadly she passed away last year. My father died six years ago. I remember the shop well, I used to sit on the step and watch the world go by. Balbriggan was such a small town then, we knew everyone. Today 18 Drogheda Street is the Spar supermarket. I also saw a picture of my great-uncle Coffe Corcoran on your site, he fished on the Avoca. I remember as a child running down to the harbour and he would tie plaice to a string for me to bring home for our tea. I am trying to find out more about the Corcoran side of the family, I believe they go back a long way in the history of Balbriggan. Thankyou for such a tremendous website.
