We have previously brought reports to you of the much needed major renovation and refurbishment of the local Parish Catholic church.
Stage 1 of this very challenging project commenced on Monday 22nd August when the scaffolding arrived to begin the repairs to the roof of the Parish church on Dublin St. This Stage will run up to Christmas but the church will remain open while the roof is being renewed. We have made special arrangements with the Parish Finance Committee to bring you regular updated photos of the work as it progresses!
The church was built in 1842 through the generosity and commitment of parishioners of past generations and it is 20 years now since decoration of any description was undertaken. But now the time has come for a new beginning and as with any building/ restoration works there is a significant cost involved running in the region of 1mio Euro.
Essential maintenance works include new roof, re-wiring, re-painting, new heating system, installation of wheelchair friendly ramps and toilets etc along with some other adjustments in order to bring the altar out more into the congregation as is favoured by the mass goers nowadays.
The community of Balbriggan (both personal and business) have been combining most generously to help achieve this goal and to date over 200k has been achieved. One of the more novel ideas has been the ‘Sponsor Our Slates’ initiative- where you sponsor a slate for the New Roof and it is then dedicated in your own name or in the name of a loved one. By dedicating a Slate you can permanently link your name and the name of your family with the refurbishment of our Parish Church.
If anyone is interested in helping the Church either in this Slate initiative or in any other way they can contact the Parish Finance Committee by email at sponsorourslates@balbriggan.net Many thanks !
