PRESS RELEASE

Festival atmosphere promised for turning-on of Christmas Lights in Balbriggan

The Balbriggan Christmas Lights Committee have arranged for the lighting of the town again this year and a festival atmosphere is promised on Georges Square on the 8th December 2006 at 8.00pm.

The Town Council and the Chamber of Commerce have traditionally arranged the lighting of the town during the Christmas Season and the committee, which comprises Councillors Monica Harford and Gertie Shields from the Town Council along with Anthony Murphy and John Farrell from the Chamber of Commerce have great plans for this holiday season.

John Farrell states “ the lighting provides a welcoming appearance to the town for visitors and provides an opportunity for the local community to enjoy the many economic, social and cultural activities in the town over the Christmas holidays”.

With the re-development of Georges Square now complete, the Committee have arranged for new lighting and a Christmas tree to be provided on the Square and this will provide a great feel to the centre of the town over the Christmas period. The people of Balbriggan will also notice a different appearance this year throughout the town.

Monica Harford states “ the committee welcomes support from all parts of the community and sponsorship will be gratefully received. If any members of the community are in a position to support the work of the committee, please contact the committee members or the Town Council offices”.

The committee have arranged a number of activities at the turning on of the Christmas lights this year. Musical entertainment has been arranged and Santa will be arriving at the Town Hall on the evening. The children will be able to visit Santa and receive a free gift. Santa’s helpers will be on hand to provide lots of fun activities for the kids.

The committee are running a free competition for children and a “once in a lifetime” prize awaits the winning child who must be who must be present on the night.

The Cathaoirleach of the Town Council, Monica Harford, will draw a winning entry at 8.00 p.m. and the lucky child will be invited to turn on the Christmas lights with the Cathaoirleach and receive a prize of a Sony Playstation 2. Entry forms are available in the Town Hall, Goldsmiths Jewellers and throughout the town.
