He remained in the job as store man until his retirement some years ago. In 1962 Barney married a local girl named Agatha Farrell and created a family of five; Brenda, Gerard, Philomena, Maria and Mark. Barney also has four grandsons to keep him young at heart. 2012 will be a special year, as Barney celebrates both his 8Oth birthday and his 5Oth wed-ding anniversary to Agatha! In recent years Barney became a member of the Fingal Vintage Society and bought two tractors, a 1953 Ferguson 20 TVO and a 1962 Fordson Dexta, to bring him back to his youth, you might say. Five years ago he came up with the idea to organise a tractor run to give something back to the community, deciding to give all proceeds to St. Francis' Hospice, a very worthy cause for the great care they provide for cancer patients. For the past five years the tractor run has been held on the first Sunday of January, and this year over 7500 was raised, with 103 tractors taking part in the run. Thanks to his dedication and the generous support of the local community, Barney has raised over 40,000 in the past five years. Well done Barney, and keep up the
good work.
