Impressive Performance by Balbriggan Man at Local History Forum
Balbriggan & District Historical Society are delighted to announce that local man Michael McMahon recently represented the Society at the Dublin City Library and Archive Local History Society Day in the Gilbert Library.
Michael presented a reprise of his talk “Sinead De Valera – Balbriggan’s Daughter of Destiny” and received a tremendous reception from the assembled audience of historians and interested parties.
Most people were entirely unaware that Balbriggan can lay claim to be the birthplace of such a key figure in history, both locally and nationally.
Michael also revealed a totally new insight into the woman behind the man who played such a key role in the events in and around the 1916 Rising and indeed played such a part on the national stage of Ireland for a long time afterwards.
Michael holds a first-class honours M.A. degree in History from U.C.D. and displayed a very detailed knowledge of his subject.
Michael was encouraged and cheered on by a number of members of the Balbriggan & District Historical Society including Chairman Brian Howley who commented:
‘We were delighted to have nominated Michael for this prestigious event and would like to thank him on behalf of all of the members of the Society for representing us and Balbriggan in such a professional and personable manner.’
