Last week in Ardgillan College there was a healthy living week. Many events took place over the duration of the week all of which were organised to promote healthy living in school and at home.
Every morning there was a breakfast club in the Home Economics room. It was 50C for one morning or 2 Euro for the week. The breakfast included cereal, toast, juices and yoghurts. Breakfast club was organised by Ms Dunne and raised over 150Euro for the Child-Line Appeal.
Every day there were activities on in the school to encourage students to get fit. On Monday it was skipping, Tuesday was strength and conditioning with Mr. Flynn, Wednesday students took part in a power walk to the Glebe North pitches and back to the school, Thursday was aerobic activities with Ms.
Byrne and Friday there was a teachers cook-off in the Home Economics room. Ms. Smith and Ms Prior along with the 2nd year Home Economics students had the difficult task of judging the cook-off but in the end it was Ms. Doherty who took the title of “master-chef” closely followed by a very disappointed Mr. Brennan (it’s not all about the winning!!).
A huge number of students participated in each of these activities. The students who participated the most in these events won a trip to the Gym which took place on Monday.
During healthy Living week, Maths week was also held in the school. This involved lots of riddles, maths club and at the end of the week a maths trial. Students who solved the daily riddle also received a prize.
The teachers involved are greatly thanked for organising such a week and students cannot wait until next year. Overall it was yet again another very successful week for Ardgillan College.
